Welcome to India Basin Waterfront Park

The India Basin Waterfront Park Project is a partnership between the San Francisco Recreation and Park Department, A. Philip Randolph Institute, Trust for Public Land, San Francisco Foundation, and the Bayview-Hunters Point community.

The project is environmental justice in action and aims to build a park that is both spectacular and crucial to the health of San Francisco’s southeast communities with an emphasis on public access, social equity, waterfront recreation, resiliency to sea level rise, and habitat and wetland restoration and enhancement.

The project plan combines the existing India Basin Shoreline Park area and the recently opened park at 900 Innes into India Basin Waterfront Park, one grand 10-acre waterfront park. The final portion of the project that will renovate India Basin Shoreline Park is anticipated to begin in mid-2025.

India Basin Waterfront Park is one of only a few parks in the nation to be guided by an Equitable Development Plan (EDP) developed by the community. The EDP ensures the park’s features and programming are culturally relevant and directly benefits the Bayview-Hunters Point community. EDP initiatives that are currently being implemented include Bayview Safety Swim and Splash and Rocking the Boat youth programs, the Food Pavilion’s rotating vendor and workshop programming supporting workforce and business development; Artist in Residence programming at the park supporting Arts, Culture and Identity, and more.

India Basin Shoreline Park Construction Begins, Park Closed

Construction at India Basin Shoreline Park (IBSP) has officially begun! The park is closed and fenced through early 2028, with construction noise, intermittent street and sidewalk closures, and pedestrian detours expected.

Please note that Bay Trail access between the PG&E Shoreline and India Basin Waterfront Park (IBWP) at 900 Innes is closed; please use alternate routes. See the trail closure map at this link.

This is the third and final phase of the IBWP project, which will renovate IBSP and connect it with the new park at 900 Innes Avenue to create a continuous 10-acre waterfront park. Learn more about the project design at this link.

India Basin Waterfront Park Wins Global Award for Excellence and Innovation

India Basin Waterfront Park, a former brownfield transformed into a welcoming public space shaped by community input, was honored by World Urban Parks with a Neighborhood Park Award for excellence and innovation.

India Basin was the only park in the United States to receive a Neighborhood Park Award, and one of just three U.S. parks recognized in any category in the WUP@10 Awards. The honors were announced today at the World Urban Parks Symposium in Istanbul.A full list of winners can be found at this link.

Located at 900 Innes Avenue, the southern half of the park opened October 19, 2024, reconnecting Bayview–Hunters Point residents to the Bay for the first time in generations. Visitors now enjoy a welcome center, food pavilion, makers shop, two public piers, a floating dock, and public art. Construction began recently on the park’s final piece at India Basin Shoreline Park, which will create a combined 10 acres of winding trails, a new beach, boathouse, courts, playgrounds, and much more.

The India Basin Waterfront Park project is led by Rec and Park, in partnership with the A. Philip Randolph Institute- San Francisco, Trust for Public Land, and the San Francisco Foundation. The project is guided by a nationally recognized Equitable Development Plan, created by and for the Bayview-Hunters Point community. The total India Basin Waterfront Park project is backed by more than $225 million in public and private investment, representing one of the most significant park projects in San Francisco’s modern history.
