As part of the India Basin project’s equitable development goals, the team is working to develop workforce and business opportunities for the local community. To support this, the San Francisco Recreation and Park Department, The Trust for Public Land, and Andrea Baker Consulting hosted a workshop on July 22 via Zoom with local food operators to get input about the design of the kitchen at the future food pavilion at the 900 Innes property. The goal of this workshop was to ensure that the design meets local business needs and will provide opportunities for local entrepreneurs seeking to start or grow their food businesses in the Bayview Hunters Point neighborhood once the park opens.
The meeting was convened and facilitated by Andrea Baker Consulting to reach a broad audience of food operators and restaurant experts. Attendees offered suggestions about cooking equipment, layout, and potential menu types. Andrea Baker Consulting is currently following up with additional local food vendors who were unable to attend the meeting. After design input is collected, the India Basin design team will incorporate this feedback into technical construction drawings.
Additional meetings will be convened in the fall to continue discussions focused on operations and any additional ways that the project can help lower barriers to entry for local food operators.
