Rec and Park is proud to share the successful removal of a Pacific Gas and Electric (PG&E) transition tower from the future site of India Basin Waterfront Park, marking a major step in transforming the Bayview-Hunters Point shoreline into a vibrant public open space.

The 2.3-acre parcel where the 60-foot steel tower once stood will now be transformed into an inviting gateway to the 10-acre waterfront park. The removal expands usable open space & enhances community access to the shoreline.

Once a stark reminder of the area’s industrial past, the tower has been relocated to another site further from the park. Its removal represents meaningful progress toward environmental healing, equity, and a decades-long vision for a healthy, inclusive, and connected waterfront.

The project to remove the tower is a result of a unique partnership between Rec and Park and PG&E, united by a shared commitment to environmental stewardship and community equity.
