Construction continues on the future boathouse, one of India Basin Waterfront Park's signature features. Following the installation of all 57 foundation piles last month, the contractor has begun building the boathouse's concrete foundation, including the structural beams and foundation slab.
Additional work includes removing unforeseen buried concrete and hauling approximately 3,000 cubic yards of excess soil off-site. The two large soil stockpiles currently on site are part of a soil surcharge program designed to reduce future ground settlement and help ensure the long-term stability of the park.
The stockpiles will remain covered for dust control and compliance with city requirements while other construction activities continue over the next year. Once the surcharge program is complete and the ground has settled to an acceptable level, the soil will be used to fill the empty PG&E pit.
