Construction has reached another milestone at India Basin Shoreline Park, where the future basketball courts are beginning to take shape. Grading has started on the two new courts overlooking the bay while crews continue constructing the concrete foundation for the park's future boathouse.
Additional work includes removing unforeseen buried concrete and hauling approximately 3,000 cubic yards of excess soil off-site. Crews have begun removing one of the surcharge piles to make room for upcoming marine work. The two soil stockpiles are part of a surcharge program designed to reduce future ground settlement and help ensure the park's long-term stability.
The stockpiles will remain covered for dust control and compliance with city requirements while construction continues over the next year. Once the surcharge program is complete and the ground has settled to an acceptable level, the soil will be used to fill the former PG&E pit.
